Yesterday I watched two movies, Room, and The Invitation. While both were entertaining, I have no idea if they were good. They both have suspenseful parts, but were also kind of predictable. Let’s start with Room (there will be no spoilers).
This movie tells a story about a girl who was abducted by a sexual predator and was held captive in a tiny shed for around 6 years. The abductor sexually assaulted her every night and in the first year got her pregnant. The kid Jack, stays in the room with her and they have a life that is normal to them but very sad to the viewer. They are able to escape and for the first time Jack is able to learn about the real world.
I definitely recommend this movie and definitely recommend watching it on a Sunday by yourself. It’s pretty sad, and a bit of a tear jerker at times. The movie stars Brie Larson as Ma, the girl who was abducted and Jacob Tremblay as Jack. Supporting cast includes William H Macy and Joan Allen as Jack’s grandparents.
If I were to put a beer mug rating on this movie it would come in at 3.8/5.0. It’s a really touching movie that really makes you put yourself in the shoes of someone else. Give this movie a watch and let me know what you thought.
The second movie I watched was The Invitation. This movie is considered a psychological thriller. It has an alright twist , but one that is easy to see from afar. The best psychological thrillers in my opinion are the ones that you need to watch two or three times to fully unpack everything leading up to the plot twist. This movie only needs to be watched once to fully grasp what causes the twist and if you’re like me you saw it coming from a mile away. The movie is set up to make you wonder if it’s a real bad case of paranoia or if they’re actually at a dinner party with a killer cult.
The cast includes a bunch of nobody’s. Logan Marshall-Green stars alongside Michiel Huisman and Tammy Blanchard. This is a movie that I would recommend only if you have nothing else to watch in your queue. It has its thrilling parts but once again is predictable. I give this movie a 2.1/5.0.
Give these movies a watch and let me know your feed back. Definitely watch Room and if you’re bored watch The Invitation. I believe there’s no such thing as a bad movie and if you do too, these movies are for you.Follow @beertalkwileyp
